From Canvas to Crossroads: The Resilient Creativity of Ericc Cram
Today, I’m thrilled to introduce someone who is as layered and vibrant as the art he creates—Ericc Cram. He’s an artist. A musician. A food service worker. And… a truck driver.
Yes, you read that right. Ericc’s path has been anything but predictable—and that’s exactly what makes his story so compelling.
Over the years, art has been his anchor, especially during life’s toughest moments. It kept him grounded, safe, and connected to himself—survival through self-expression. Just not financially. Yet.
Ericc gives us an honest, beautiful glimpse into what it’s like to be a working artist in America—where creativity is often undervalued, and passion doesn’t always pay the rent.
Creativity as a Lifeline
Whether he’s behind a canvas, a guitar, or the wheel of a semi-truck, creativity is Ericc’s language. His story reminds us of the quiet power of staying true to yourself—even when life veers wildly off course.
When I asked Ericc to describe what he meant by growing up in a hostile environment, I knew it was a vulnerable ask. But his courage to reflect and share was powerful. It reminded me of what Taraleigh Weathers (another guest from this season) shared about not being supported as a kid in school—and how pain can fuel transformation.
From that same fire, Ericc created his comic series, Shift—a story forged from chaos and laced with hope. Inspired by numerology, each character represents a balance of light and shadow—because as Ericc says, “we all hold both.”
A Shift in Motion
I met Ericc when he was in his early twenties—a beautiful whirlwind of energy and chaos. He painted murals at our store, pulled tarot cards with us, and breathed life into the space. Even then, I knew his journey would be uniquely his.
Just before the pandemic, he was living free in the desert—waiting tables, making friends, and making art. He asked a question many don’t: What can I build that I’m proud of? That’s when trucking entered his life.
Yes, trucking. The unexpected turn that brought solitude, stability, and a new rhythm to his creativity. It wasn’t all open skies and sunset highways—there were cranky dispatchers and long days. But Ericc didn’t quit. He shifted. Because that’s what he knows best.
Building for the Future
Today, Ericc has found a balance between making a living and making art. He’s currently transforming Shift into a musical for his queer community. Bold, healing, and deeply personal—it’s pure Ericc.

Final Words from Ericc
As we wrapped our interview, I asked the same two questions I ask all my guests:
What makes you smile today?
And what advice would you leave our listeners?
Ericc paused and then answered with this:
“Within all limitations exists infinite possibility.”
And I believe that. Because Ericc is living proof.
