About Lisa Johnson

Lisa Johnson is a high-conflict divorce strategist and certified domestic violence advocate. She is also the co-founder of Been There Got Out, a coaching and advocacy platform for people facing legal abuse and coercive control.

After representing herself through dozens of court appearances, Lisa turned lived experience into legal impact. Her case was published in the Connecticut Law Journal and is now used as legal precedent. As a result, her work continues to shape how courts view power and control in family law cases.

In addition, Lisa provided live testimony that helped pass Jennifer’s Law in Connecticut. This law expanded the legal definition of domestic violence to include coercive control, making Connecticut the third state in the U.S. to take this step.

Today, Lisa and her partner, Chris, coach individuals navigating high-conflict divorce, custody disputes, and toxic co-parenting situations. Their goal is simple: help clients prepare strategically, protect themselves legally, and improve their outcomes in family court and beyond. They also host a weekly Legal Abuse Support Group for those dealing with narcissistic or coercive opponents.

Finally, Lisa is the co-author of Been There Got Out: Toxic Relationships, High-Conflict Divorce, and How to Stay Sane Under Insane Circumstances. Her next book, When Your Ex Turns the Kids Against You, will be released in January 2026.
