
About Lisa Sugarman
Lisa Sugarman is an author, mental health advocate, and a three-time survivor of suicide loss. Today, she is also the founder of The HelpHUB. It is one of the most inclusive free online destinations for mental health resources, tools, crisis hotlines, and community-focused support.
In addition, Lisa is a passionate voice in suicide prevention and mental health awareness. She serves as a crisis counselor with The Trevor Project. She also works as a trained storyteller with National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Through this work, she uses her lived experience to help others find healing through connection, honesty, and community.
Over the years, Lisa has written several books. These include Surviving: Finding Hope After Suicide Loss (2026), How to Raise Perfectly Imperfect Kids and Be OK With It (2019), Untying Parent Anxiety (2017), and LIFE: It Is What It Is (2014). She also co-hosts The Survivors, a weekly podcast featuring candid conversations and real stories from people impacted by suicide or mental illness.
Beyond her writing, Lisa facilitates Safe Place, a virtual support group for survivors of suicide loss through Samaritans Southcoast. At the same time, she serves on the organization’s board. Additionally, she is a frequent contributor to the Mental Health Television Network (MHTN). Her work has appeared in The Washington Post, Psychology Today, Healthline, TODAY Parents, Thrive Global, Grown & Flown, and LittleThings.
Previously, Lisa was a nationally syndicated columnist. Now, she continues to write widely about parenting, grief, and mental health.
