Why I Do This Podcast (And Why Angie’s Words Matter)

After the microphones are turned off and the conversation ends, there’s often a quiet moment that lingers for me.

That was especially true after my conversation with Angie Hawkins.

A few days later, Angie sent me a message reflecting on her experience on Change Happened, Then What? She wrote about feeling safe. About feeling seen. About being able to share even the darkest, most vulnerable parts of her story without fear or judgment. She described the conversation as one that felt less like an interview and more like talking to a compassionate friend.

Her words stopped me in my tracks.

Not because they were about me—but because they perfectly articulated why this podcast exists.

I don’t create this show to center myself. And while I love the craft of storytelling—shaping moments, finding the throughline, and helping stories come to life—this work has never been about my voice being the loudest in the room.

It’s about the guest.

It’s about giving someone the space to tell their story in full. Not just the polished version. Not just the sound bites. But the messy, honest, human truth of what it means to live through change.

And just as importantly, it’s about the listener.

It’s about the person who presses play while driving to work, sitting alone at night, or quietly wondering if they’re the only one who feels this way. It’s about reminding them—through someone else’s story—that they are not broken, they are not weak, and they are not alone.

When Angie talked about hopelessness, emotional pain, survival, and learning to see herself with compassion, she wasn’t just sharing her past. She was offering language for feelings so many people struggle to explain. She was shining a light into places that often stay hidden because they feel too heavy or too personal to name.

That’s the heart of this podcast.

Each episode is a shared journey—one where the guest feels safe enough to be honest, and the listener feels brave enough to stay present. Where healing doesn’t come from answers, but from connection. From realizing that someone else has stood where you’re standing now… and kept going.

Angie ended her episode with a simple truth: You are worthy.

And maybe that’s the quiet thread that runs through every conversation I hold space for.

This podcast isn’t about fixing anyone.
It’s about listening.
It’s about witnessing.
And it’s about reminding each other—story by story—that even after change happens, meaning, hope, and connection are still possible.

And that matters more than anything.
