Beyond Everything Is Love

Processing Grief and Difficult Emotions

Sophie Malahieude, Season Four guest on Change Happened, Then What?

What changes when we stop judging an emotion and start listening to it?

Sophie is the author of Beyond Emotions and creator of The Emotion Process, a practical approach that helps people understand emotions through the body rather than overthinking them in the mind.

For more than 28 years, she has studied and taught yoga, Ayurveda, mindfulness, breathwork and self-awareness practices. Her work helps people build a different relationship with their emotions so they can move forward with greater clarity, self-trust and intention.

Before

Growing up in a small village in France, Sophie was sensitive, curious and deeply interested in what feelings were trying to say. Yoga later became the first practice that felt like a way inward rather than another set of rules.

The change

After her mother died, Sophie believed she was coping well. Persistent breathlessness, after a medical checkup had not identified a physical cause, prompted her to recognize that she had been trying to stay positive instead of fully grieving.

What came next

Sophie returned to body awareness, movement, breathwork and self-inquiry. By tracing emotions instead of suppressing them, she began relating differently to grief, fear, family and the old stories she had carried about love.
